(I found this particularly interesting, as when I've previously gone to the Forbidden City, the pollution is so bad there is no view at all, not even of the nearby skyscrapers. It makes you feel like the palace really is a bubble, as it is always described. But from here, you can tell that at least sometimes the Emperor could survey some of his kingdom.)
